New Delhi: In a horrific incident, a corpse was found in the wheel well of a U.S. military aircraft that took off from Afghanistan amid the chaos as desperate Afghans tried to flee from their country after the Taliban took over.

“Human remains were found in the wheel well of C-17 Globemaster that took off from Kabul on Tuesday and landed at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar,” U.S. military said in a statement on Tuesday quoted ANI.

This adds to the horror of a video that appeared earlier this week in which at least 3 young Afghan men fell off the C-17 Globemaster III while it was mid-flight. The men had clung onto the base of the aircraft in a desperate attempt to escape Afghanistan.

“A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III landed at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport on Sunday to deliver a load of equipment to support evacuation. Before the crew could offload the aircraft was surrounded by hundreds of Afghans. Due to the deteriorating situation, the crew departed the airfield as quickly as possible,” the statement added.

“In addition to the videos seen online, human remains were discovered in the wheel well of C-17 after it landed at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar,” the U.S. Air Force said adding that the aircraft is currently impounded to collect the remains and inspect further before it can fly again.

In an attempt to flee the country, some were clinging on to either the undercarriage of the C-17 or the landing gear of the transport plane but due to the huge G-force exerted during take-off they got flung out.

An NBC report stated that investigators will be looking at multiple civilian death reports that have come up recently. While the U.S. Air Force did not give a confirmed number of the number of lives lost, they acknowledged that multiple people did lose their lives while trying to flee the country.

The Taliban took over Kabul on Sunday, making people rush to the airport to leave the country according to the ANI report, the officials believe that people might have been misinformed about the availability of flights.
