England batsman Harry Brook described fog as the main cause of trouble for the batsmen in the T20 match played in Kolkata on Friday. He admitted that the team needs to recover from the seven-wicket defeat at Eden Gardens. With this win, India is ahead 1-0 in the five-match series. Brook expressed hope that his team will perform better in the next match to be held in Chennai and will make a comeback in the series.
Brook’s statement on defeat in Kolkata
Brook said on the eve of the second T20 match:
“We are not under any pressure at all. India is a great team, and we knew they would give us a tough fight.”
He praised India’s spinner Varun Chakravarthy, saying he is an “exceptionally good bowler”. However, he said that it is difficult for the batsmen to see the ball due to fog and said that hopefully there will be no such problem in Chennai.
Thinking about strategy in the next match
Brook stressed the need for England to maintain pressure and play aggressively against India. He said:
“We have to put pressure on the Indian bowlers and try to take wickets during their innings.”
Referring to the message of England head coach Brendon McCullum (Badge), Brook said that the team will have to continuously adopt positive thinking and aggressive strategy.
Talking about taking inspiration from captain Jos Buttler
Brook praised captain Jos Buttler’s excellent performance at Eden Gardens. Butler played a brilliant inning of 68 runs in 44 balls. Brook said:
“Buttler has gained a lot of experience in India, be it the IPL or playing for England. It’s always nice to see him score runs.”
Brook expressed hope that he himself will help ensure the team’s victory by making a significant contribution in the next match.
determination to contribute to victory
Brook said that his focus is more on team victory than individual performance. He said:
“My aim is to contribute to winning matches. If I am successful in winning one or two matches in this series, I will be very happy.”
Considering the previous defeat as an initial setback, he said that the team will learn from this performance and bounce back in the next match.
next match challenge
- Importance of weather and pitch: Conditions in Chennai may be different from Kolkata. Brook expressed hope that problems like fog would not arise there.
- Aggressive Strategy: England will need aggressive batting and scoring fast runs in the powerplay to counter India’s strong bowling attack.
- Fielding and bowling: Brook said that England will also have to be more aggressive in bowling so that pressure can be put on the Indian batsmen.
