Northern Railway Launches Month-Long Digital Life Certificate Campaign from November 1

To ease the annual pension renewal process and eliminate the need for physical visits to bank branches, Northern Railway will roll out a dedicated month-long Digital Life Certificate (DLC) campaign starting November 1. Aligned with the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) nationwide initiative, the campaign is specifically tailored to assist elderly, infirm, and super-senior railway pensioners in submitting their mandatory Jeevan Pramaan Patra seamlessly from their residences or nearby divisional centers.

Face Authentication Technology: No Biometric Scanners Needed

The centerpiece of the campaign is the widespread deployment of cutting-edge Face Authentication Technology via Android and iOS smartphones. Unlike previous years that required specialized fingerprint scanners or iris readers:

  • Smartphone-Enabled Submission: Pensioners or their caregivers only need an Aadhaar-linked smartphone equipped with the official Jeevan Pramaan app and the UIDAI Aadhaar FaceRD application.

  • Instant Aadhaar Verification: A simple live facial scan against UIDAI’s central repository verifies the identity of the pensioner within seconds, generating an instant confirmation receipt directly on the screen.

  • Paperless and Real-Time: The digital receipt syncs directly with the concerned pension disbursing bank and railway treasury, ensuring zero delay in uninterrupted pension credits.

Special Help Desks Across Divisions and Stations

To assist pensioners unfamiliar with digital applications or lacking smartphones, Northern Railway is establishing dedicated facilitation camps across key divisional headquarters—including Delhi, Ambala, Moradabad, Firozpur, and Lucknow:

  • Trained Personnel: Staff at railway stations and welfare inspector offices will assist visiting pensioners with instant on-the-spot biometric and facial capture.

  • India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) Integration: Doorstep service will be available through local postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), who will visit bedridden or disabled pensioners at home to generate certificates using hand-held devices.

  • Doorstep Banking Services (DSB): Public sector banks managing railway pension accounts will also deploy field agents to support super-seniors unable to leave their homes.

Essential Checklist for Submitting Your DLC

Railway pensioners preparing to submit their Digital Life Certificate during the campaign should keep the following details ready:

  • Valid 12-digit Aadhaar number linked to an active mobile phone.

  • Pension Payment Order (PPO) number issued by the railway administration.

  • Active pension bank account number and branch details.

  • Clear ambient lighting without heavy backlighting when utilizing the face-recognition tool.
