Pankaj Tripathi Hails Mirzapur The Movie Makers for Skipping Box Office PR: ‘Organic Word-of-Mouth Led the Way’

As Mirzapur: The Movie continues its high-octane theatrical run globally, lead actor Pankaj Tripathi has opened up about a refreshing shift in how the crime thriller’s commercial triumph is being handled. While aggressively plastering daily collection posters and pushing actors to share PR metrics on their personal social handles has become the industry norm, Tripathi praised producer Ritesh Sidhwani for refusing to burden the cast with box office posturing.

Zero Pressure on Daily Box Office Metrics

Speaking about the production banner’s grounded strategy, the veteran actor revealed that despite the film crossing major milestones, the makers consciously avoided artificial digital hype. Tripathi noted that once the big-screen adaptation hit cinemas and initial ticket returns began rolling in, Sidhwani maintained a relaxed and authentic posture. According to Tripathi, there was zero pressure on the cast to project or flaunt numbers across their social media handles, a move he described as remarkable and reflective of a confident producer.

Prioritising Organic Word-of-Mouth Over Social PR

Elaborating on the philosophy behind the release, Tripathi highlighted that Sidhwani made a deliberate choice to let audience sentiment drive the momentum rather than engineered social media campaigns. The calculated gamble has paid rich dividends at the ticket windows. Riding on genuine viewer buzz and nostalgia, the action drama has surpassed ₹200 crore nett in India and is rapidly closing in on the ₹300 crore gross milestone worldwide, proving the enduring pull of the franchise beyond the streaming screen.

Expanding the Purvanchal Underworld

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur: The Movie is framed as an interquel set within the timeline of the groundbreaking first season, positioned between episodes six and seven. The story brings back Akhandanand “Kaleen Bhaiya” Tripathi alongside his mercurial son Munna (Divyenndu), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), and Bablu Pandit (Jitendra Kumar) during a period when the Pandit brothers operated under the Tripathi umbrella. The theatrical narrative introduces high-stakes turf wars with rival bahubalis, expanding the violent battle for the throne of Mirzapur on an unprecedented scale.
