In his tweet, he wrote, “We strongly reject the report of the human rights watchdog, which said that the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate have committed war crimes. The organization should not misrepresent its own information. They need to take a closer look at the sites and find out themselves.”

Recently, High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet had criticized the Taliban on their human rights track record.

In a report by Reuters, Bachelet said in the weeks since the Taliban took over the country,  they have contradicted their assurances that they will uphold women’s rights.

She said that since the take over women have started getting excluded from the public sphere.

For many, the new diktats by the Taliban is an uncomfortable reminder of their oppressive regime between 1996-2001. The Taliban has mandated gender segregation in universities and the hijab has also become compulsory.

Apart from which, even media outlets have been affected by the Taliban takeover, at least 153 Afghan media outlets have stopped operations in 20 provinces.
