Taliban Condemns US Drone Attack Which Killed 7 People In Kabul, Says ‘Should Have Informed Us’

New Delhi: A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has condemned the United States for failing to inform the Taliban before ordering the recent drone strike targeting a suspected suicide bomber in Kabul on Sunday which resulted in civilian casualties.

In a written response to a China’s state television CGTN on Monday, the Taliban spokesman described the U.S. action on foreign soil as unlawful and said, “If there was any potential threat in Afghanistan, it should have been reported to us, not an arbitrary attack that has resulted in civilian casualties.”

According to media reports, at least seven civilians including three children were killed in the drone attack that destroyed a car laden with explosives near the international airport in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.

Meanwhile, defending the air strike, Pentagon officials said the suicide car bomber had been preparing to attack the Kabul airport on behalf of ISIS-K.

“We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties,” Reuters quoted U.S. Central Command, adding that it it was investigating reports of civilian casualties from Sunday’s drone strike.

ISIS-K is a local affiliate of Islamic State that is an enemy of both the West and the Taliban. It is to be noted that the incident happened at the time when U.S. troops are amid the final stages of a withdrawal from Afghanistan post take over by Taliban.
