This month of April can bring great relief and good news for lakhs of central employees and pensioners who are eagerly waiting for the Dearness Allowance for January 2026. According to the latest media reports, the government may give its final decision on DA increase in the coming few days. The eyes of the employees who have been waiting for a long time are now fixed on the next step of the government.
After all, why is there so much delay in the announcement of DA?
Let us tell you that the 7th Pay Commission has completed its term on 31st December 2025 and technically the 8th Finance Commission has become effective in the country. Experts believe that this is the biggest reason for this unusual delay in the announcement of dearness allowance. Currently, there is an intense discussion going on within the government regarding the new DA calculation formula, due to which the official announcement is taking time. However, no official statement or clarification has been issued yet by the government or the Finance Ministry on this delay.
How much will the money increase in the account: 2% or 3%?
At present, dearness allowance is being paid at the rate of 58 percent to central employees. If the government decides to increase DA by 2 percent this time, then this figure will directly increase to 60 percent. At the same time, if the employees get a gift of 3 percent increase, then their total DA can reach 61 percent. Claims of 2 to 3 percent DA increase are being made in different media reports, but the real picture will become clear only after the final approval of the Cabinet meeting.
DA has a special connection with festivals
Usually, the Central Government revises the dearness allowance of its employees twice a year i.e. in January and July. If we look at the trend of the last several years, the DA of January has often been announced around the festival of colors Holi and the DA of July has been announced around the festival of lights Diwali. But this time, despite the festival of Holi passing and the month of March ending, no decision could be taken on DA. Now everyone’s eyes are fixed on the month of April, when the government can end this long wait and give a bumper increase in the salaries of the employees.
