The petition also demanded the court to direct the Karnataka government, police and Kannada Cinema Chamber of Commerce not to obstruct the film’s release.
This legal step has been taken amidst increasing tension after Kamal Haasan’s controversial remarks during the film’s audio launch in Chennai a week ago. The actor said, “Kannada is born from Tamil,” After which many pro -Kannada organizations, politicians and film personalities have demanded an unconditional apology from the actor, and threatened to protest against the film and even burning theater.
Kannada outrage and industry response
Prominent people of the Kannada film industry, including director Rajendra Babu, have strongly condemned Kamal Haasan’s comment. Rajendra Babu said that he respects Kamal as an artist, but the actor should apologize for maintaining harmony. They said, “If the lotus apologizes, their respect will not be reduced; but their stature will increase further.” He revealed that he also discussed the issue with director Mani Ratnam, who had worked with Kamal in “Thug Life” after 38 years.
The Karnataka Cinema Chamber of Commerce has also taken a tough stance and announced that they will not allow the film to be released until the lotus publicly apologizes. Meanwhile, the protests have intensified, with pro -Kannada groups warned that if the film is shown in theaters, there will be violent demonstrations.

Despite increasing pressure, Kamal Haasan has refused to apologize, saying that his comments were misinterpreted and had no intention to disrespect Kannada. His petition argued that the release of the film should not be stopped due to political and cultural disputes, he stressed the need for police protection to ensure public safety and smooth screening.
The decision of the Karnataka High Court is now important – either will pave the way for peaceful release or will further increase stress.
