Turkish target on Pakistan’s ‘support’, FWICE appeals to boycott film shooting there

Mumbai: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged all Indian filmmakers to reconsider going as a filming site there in view of the increasing support for Pakistan in Turkey.

In a statement released, the film body emphasized the Indian film industry on the need to stand against Turkish political alliance, and urged the producers to find an alternative place for their shooting.

FWICE, an organization representing 36 different types of workers, technicians and artists in India’s media and entertainment sector, has strongly urged the manufacturers to boycott Turkey for shooting. This call has been made in response to Türkiye’s growing support for Pakistan on important issues for India’s national interests.

In the statement, FWICE said, “FWICE has always been adamant on its belief that” the nation comes first. ” Given the recent developments and the constant situation in Turkey in support of Pakistan, which has created concerns about national integrity and safety, we believe that investing or supporting in any form is not in the best interest of the Indian film industry that can indirectly support or benefit such a country.

The statement further said, “Turkey’s stance has been seen not only diplomatically but also on various international forums, where it has taken opposite stance to India’s sovereign interests. As an industry deeply contained in Indian soil and culture, we cannot be indifferent to the dignity or security actions of our country. So all the production house of Indian film fraternity can not be indifferent to the actions. And appeal to crew members to stand in solidarity with the nation and boycott Turkey for film shooting, until the country rethinks its diplomatic trend and does not align with the principles of mutual respect and non-intervention. “

The film institution said, “FWICE has always been a pillar of strength for the Indian film industry and its employees. At such a time our unity is important to send a strong, collective message: India’s sovereignty and dignity can not be compromised. We hope that the Indian film community will respect this appeal in a broader national interest.”

FWICE’s statement came after Türkiye and Azerbaijan gave official support to Pakistan, after which there has been a sharp reaction in India. On May 8, both Türkiye and Azerbaijan issued an official statement to express their support for Pakistan. Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned Operation Sindoor, calling it “inflammatory action”. After this statement, there was a lot of resentment on Indian social media, in which many users, including celebrities like Rupali Ganguly, expressed their anger and called for boycotting Turkey.
