Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has etched his name into football folklore by winning the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or at London’s Palladium Theatre, ending a quarter-century wait for an English recipient of the sport’s highest individual accolade. Kane edged out Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and FC Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal in the voting, while also taking home the Gerd Müller Trophy as the world’s most prolific marksman. Across club and international competitions, Kane recorded an astounding 73 goals and 8 assists, spearheading Bayern Munich to domestic dominance and carrying England to a bronze-medal finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“You Deserve Every Bit of This Award”: Virat Kohli’s Message

Following the ceremony, Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli took to social media to share a tribute celebrating his long-standing friendship with Kane. Praising the striker’s relentless pursuit of greatness despite years of close calls and high scrutiny, Kohli wrote:

“Harry my friend, you deserve every bit of this award for your resilience, hard work and honesty with which you’ve carried yourself through all these years playing football at the top. Really happy for you. God bless you and your family. They must all be very proud of you as you would be of your own journey. My best wishes always. Congratulations.”

Cross-Sport Camaraderie Built on Mutual Respect

The bond between Kohli and Kane dates back several years, forged through public exchanges on social media and mutual admiration for each other’s sporting discipline. The two first connected during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, meeting at Lord’s Cricket Ground for an interactive session that paired football penalties with indoor cricket nets. Over the years, Kane has routinely cheered on Kohli’s batting milestones for Team India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), while Kohli has voiced admiration for Kane’s leadership and clinical finishing.
