Crisis deepened in America on Tiktok, if the deal is not done till 5 April 2025, then the ban may be banned

There is confusion about the future of the popular short-video app Tiktok in the US. The app, used by about 170 million American users, is once again facing the danger of ban. If its Chinese-original company bytedance does not sell it to a non-China buyer, Tiktok can be completely banned in the US.

The dispute is part of the ongoing conflict between the US national security concerns and the cultural and economic importance of Tiktok. President Donald Trump is playing an active role in this entire case, but the situation is not yet completely clear.

Why is the deadline of 5 April 2025 important?

This crisis on Tiktok has come due to America’s Protecting American Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which was approved by the former President Joe Biden in April 2024 as a law.

• Under this law, bytedance was directed to sell the American branch of Tiktok by 19 January 2025.

• When this deadline was completed, on the same day i.e. on 20 January 2025, a formal ban on Tiktok came into force in the US.

• On the same day, Donald Trump took the oath of office and postponed the ban for 75 days, which fixed the new deadline on 5 April 2025.

If the sales of Tiktok are not fulfilled by this deadline, this app will be removed from America’s app stores and internet services, affecting millions of users and creators.

Donald Trump’s stance and potential deal

After becoming President, Donald Trump has taken a soft stand on Tiktok as compared to before. In the 2024 elections, Tiktok helped him connect him to young voters, so they are trying to save this app.

On 30 March 2025, while talking to reporters in Air Force One, Trump said,
“We have many potential buyers, and are tremendous in buying Tiktok.”

Trump’s Vice President JD Vance has hoped that a concrete proposal may come up by the beginning of April. However, the deal cannot be finalized until the Chinese government approves, as the original algorithm of Tiktok is near bytedance, which China does not want to sell outside.

Tiktok and America-China trade relations

Trump has suggested to use business policy as a strategic weapon on the sale of Tiktok.

• On 26 March 2025, he indicated that if China approves the sale of Tiktok, the US may reduce tariffs on Chinese products.

• This stance is contrary to his first policy, where he had said that if China stops the sale of Tiktok, they would increase the tariff.

• In February 2025, the US increased the tariff from 10% to 20% on imported goods from China.
