Google chrome support: Google Chrome will soon stop supporting Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie. This information has been given by Chrome Support Manager Allen T. This announcement has been made on the official support forum of Chrome. From version 139 (which will come on 5 August, 2025), Chrome will only work on Android 10 or after the version. This means that the old phone users will not get a new update of Chrome. Alan wrote in the forum that “Chrome 138 will be the last version of Chrome which will support Android 8.0 (Oreo) and Android 9.0 (Pie).”

Although users can continue using Chrome version 138 on their Android 8 and 9 devices, they will not get new features, performance improvements or no significant security updates. This can affect browser performance and can make devices more sensitive to dangers.

Many users use it

Let us tell you that Android 8.0 was first released in 2017 and Android 9.0 in 2018. The number of users using this operating system is still very high. According to Google’s April 2025 platform distribution data, about 4% of Android devices run on Oreo, while 5.8% use Pie. In comparison, Android is on 10% of the device.

What will happen to users using Android 8 and 9?

Users who are still using Android 8 or 9 can continue using Chrome 138, although it is not recommended due to lack of security updates. The second option is to switch to a browser like Firefox, which supports the device running Android 5.0 and the subsequent version. However, compatibility varies according to the browser and cannot function properly on some old systems. The best remedy is to buy a new Android device. This will ensure that you get constant support and safety updates for apps like Chrome.
