Dharamshala, August 28 (HS). Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, the opinion of local people and experts should be taken to develop the Pong Dam area from the tourism point of view. While expanding tourism activities according to the area, the participation of local people should also be ensured in it. Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hemraj Bairwa said this while chairing the meeting of the District Destination Management Committee on Wednesday under Swadesh Darshan 2.0.
In the meeting, the master plan made for the development of the Pong Dam area under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 was discussed in detail. During the discussion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the consultancy firm should also take suggestions from the local people for which activities or projects can be worked on in the area related to Pong in terms of tourism.
He said that the state government has expressed its commitment to develop Kangra district as the tourism capital of the state. He said that special efforts are being made by the government and the district administration to promote tourism related activities in the Pong Dam area. Under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, this area has also been selected for development from the tourism point of view. He said that the areas of Matiyal, Khatiyar, Nangal Chowk, Nagarota Surian and Haripur Guler in the Pong Dam area will be developed from the tourism point of view.
Land selected in Khatiad
Hemraj Bairwa said that under Swadesh Darshan 2.0, land has been selected to develop tourism activities in Khatiad. He said that the district officials have inspected the land in Khatiad on the spot on August 14. He said that after this, the process of transferring the selected land to the department will now be taken forward. To develop Khatiad from a tourism point of view, infrastructure like cottages, pools, spas and restaurants will be built here. Apart from this, water sports, adventure sports, local food, culture and art will also be promoted.
Structure should be in harmony with nature
The Deputy Commissioner said that the area of Pong Dam is a very sensitive area from the environmental point of view, therefore construction work should be done keeping in mind the nature here. The less interference is made with the local nature in the structure being built here, the better it is. He said that when tourists come here to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city and their busy routine, they will also like to stay in a peaceful place amidst nature. Keeping this in mind, more and more walking trails and cycling trails should be made here. He said that in the master plan made by a private consultancy firm to develop the area from the tourism point of view, a complete plan should also be made for waste management.
