Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has shared a copy of a historic resolution passed in Parliament in 2003 on the social media platform ‘X’. This was the time when coalition forces led by America attacked Iraq. Jairam Ramesh said that at that time India not only strongly condemned the attack but also provided huge help to Iraq on humanitarian grounds.

When India gave aid of Rs 100 crore to Iraq

According to the documents shared, the then Indian government, in solidarity with the people of Iraq, Rs 100 crore The assistance amount was approved. This help included cash as well as large quantities of ration and other essential materials.

What was written in that resolution of Parliament?

That resolution shared by the Congress stated in clear words:

Condemning the attack: India had described the US-led military action against Iraq as ‘unacceptable’.

UN violations: The resolution said that this action has been taken without the approval of the United Nations Security Council, which is against the UN Charter.

Human Sense: India considered the suffering of innocent children and women suffering in war as a serious humanitarian issue.

Now why is the demand rising regarding Iran?

Opposition parties argue that India has old and strategic relations with Iran. A delegation of Congress leaders also met the Iranian Ambassador recently. The opposition wants the government to have a debate in Parliament and express its condolences towards Iran and take a tough stance, as was done in the case of Iraq in 2003.
