This means that Pakistan is trapped in a debt trap and will have to take more loans to repay the existing debt. Apart from some internal issues, Shahbaz Sharif also briefly discussed issues related to Pakistan's foreign policy. In this context, raising the Kashmir issue is a kind of tradition for the leaders of Pakistan, which Shahbaz Sharif also followed.
If Shahbaz Sharif had only mentioned Kashmir, it could have been understood that this was done to appease extremist elements and a section in Pakistani politics. Naturally, India would have objected to that too, but it was not just that. Shahbaz Sharif compared Kashmir with the situation in Gaza. His intention behind this was to draw the attention of Islamic countries to the fact that the condition of Gaza which had deteriorated due to the Israeli attack, is similar to that which has happened in Kashmir due to Modi's policies. Whereas it is absolutely absurd to compare the two situations. It is a different matter that most of the Islamic countries will ignore the words of Shahbaz Sharif.
India's relations with all Islamic countries are getting stronger and no one has paid special attention to the Kashmir issue. However, Shahbaz Sharif's statement reflects the mindset of Pakistan and also highlights that improving relations with India is not a priority for the new government at the moment. There is no doubt that Shahbaz Sharif and his allies like Pakistan Peoples Party or PPP will be given some scope by the army to decide the policy regarding India. Although Shahbaz Sharif's brother and his political guru Nawaz Sharif has been insisting that as the elected Prime Minister he has the right to decide all the policies of the country including security, but this is not true. This resulted in a rift between him and the military and he was removed from the post of Prime Minister three times.
Shahbaz Sharif has always had very good relations with the army, but the most talked about security issue in Pakistan at the moment is the challenges arising on the western border. This is because Pakistan's relations with the Afghan Taliban are deteriorating. Afghan Taliban has not stopped supporting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan i.e. TTP. TTP is continuously targeting the Pakistani Army. At present there is no hope of averting the conflict between TTP and Pakistani Army, while Pakistan's conflict on the border with India continues since February 2021. with this
The people of both the countries living near the border have got great relief.
There is no sign of ceasefire violation from Pakistan's side, but Pakistan has maintained its terrorist infrastructure. Nevertheless, due to economic and political difficulties their activism is somewhat limited. Therefore, India's pressure is justified that to normalize bilateral relations, Pakistan will have to eliminate its terrorist infrastructure. This pressure should continue even after the elections in India. In India too, till the elections the main focus of the government will remain on domestic issues.
Till now Sharif Bhai has been saying that despite differences on Kashmir issue, both the countries should maintain full economic and trade relations. Imran Khan, who was the Prime Minister of Pakistan at the time of change in the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir, had adopted a very strict attitude towards India and even expressed his anger towards the Sangh Parivar. Imran Khan bluntly declared that unless India changes its decision on Article 370, relations with Pakistan will not progress. It is unlikely that Shahbaz Sharif will use such language against PM Modi and RSS as Imran did. Before restoring relations with India, Pakistan will try hard to save respect. In this context, perhaps he wants the return of Jammu and Kashmir as a complete state. Although the Government of India has assured the Supreme Court that it will restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir at the appropriate time, the decision will depend on internal circumstances and not on the sentiments of Pakistan.
Overall, there is no possibility of any dramatic or major change in India-Pakistan relations. Unless the Pakistani Army takes any meaningful initiative, there will be no breath of fresh air in bilateral relations and at present its generals are also not giving any such indication. This situation is then,
Whereas they are well aware of the fact that Pakistan's economic stability cannot be ensured without changing the policy towards India.
Relations between India and Pakistan since independence i.e. 1947 have been extremely controversial and complex. As soon as it separated from India, large-scale riots broke out in the then great Punjab. Then one million people were killed and 1.5 crore people had to leave their homes forever. Then the Pakistani army attacked Kashmir in the guise of tribals. After that, who can forget the pain of India-Pakistan war of 1965 and 1971.
The Kargil War was the last major conflict between the two countries. Apart from this, Pakistani Army and its intelligence agency ISI keep looking for excuses to infiltrate into India. In fact, the political leaders of Pakistan are always ready to take revenge for separating Bangladesh from them. While doing this, they forget that East Pakistan i.e. Bangladesh was separated from them not because of India, but because of Pakistan's own bad policies.
