Providing a photocopy of Aadhaar card while checking in at a hotel, getting a SIM card or for entry into an event is soon going to be a thing of the past. The government is preparing to bring such a new rule, which will not only make your privacy more secure than before, but will also make your life easier. Now no one will have the right to keep the paper photocopy of your Aadhar card, because it is illegal.
Why is this big change happening?
Till now, at many places we were asked for photocopy of Aadhar card. Where these copies go, how they are kept, and whether they are being misused was a matter of great concern. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has clarified that keeping a photocopy of Aadhaar is a violation of the Aadhaar Act and to eliminate the risk of data leakage, the entire process is now being digitalized.
So now how will the verification happen?
Instead of photocopy, a new and secure digital verification technology will now be used. Hotels, event organizers or any such organization that needs verification will now have to register themselves on a new system. After this there will be two main methods of verification:
- QR Code Scanning: Verification will be completed immediately by scanning the QR code present on your Aadhar card.
- New Aadhaar Mobile App: UIDAI is also testing a new mobile app, which will make verification even easier.
UIDAI’s new app: even more smart and secure
This new app is going to be very special in many respects. It will be able to do app-to-app verification without connecting to the central server for verification every time. This means that it will be very fast and safe. This app can be used for entry at the airport or for age verification at those shops where a minimum age is required to purchase goods.
What does it mean to you?
This new rule and app will bring many big benefits to the general public:
- Data safe: Now you will not have to worry that your Aadhaar photocopy may be misused. The risk of your data being leaked or stolen will almost be eliminated.
- Convenience: The hassle of getting the photocopy of Aadhaar card done again and again and carrying it with you will end. All the work will be done from your mobile phone itself.
- Control over privacy: Your personal information will now be more secure than before, because no one will be able to store it on paper.
- Easy Update: Through this app you will also be able to easily upload your updated address proof.
This change also supports the government’s upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will further strengthen the protection of your personal information. This is a big and important step towards Digital India, which is bringing both security and convenience together.
