Varanasi, August 19 (HS). Rakshabandhan, a festival symbolizing the unbreakable love between brother and sister, is being celebrated in a joyous atmosphere on Monday. Due to Bhadrakal, the festival's splendor was seen in homes and markets after 1.32 pm. Sisters wished for their brother's long life and happiness and tied Rakhi on their wrists. Rakhi, Rori, Akshat Deep etc. were decorated in a plate and Tilak was applied on brother's forehead with rice. After this, Aarti was performed by tying Rakhi on the wrist. Sisters, who were waiting to tie Rakhi on their brothers' wrists on an empty stomach since morning, broke their fast by tying Rakhi to their brothers. Brothers also broke their fast by feeding sweets to their sisters with their own hands and promised to protect them for life. On the festival, little brothers got colorful Rakhi tied on their entire hand.

Brothers also showered love on their married sisters who came to tie Rakhi at their brother's house. They gave them sarees, jewellery etc. as gifts. The love of small children was also worth seeing on the festival. Wearing new clothes since morning, sisters reached the markets in vehicles along with their children and husbands. They bought their favourite sweets from sweet shops and left for their parents' house after buying Rakhi from the decorated shops. On the festival, evergreen film songs like 'Behna ne bhai ki kalai pe pyaar bandha hai, pyaar ke do tar se sansar bandha hai…', 'Bhaiya mere Rakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana, bhaiya mere choti bahan ko na bhulaana…' were echoing in the houses.

On the festival, social media also reduced the distance between brothers and sisters living outside the city or abroad. Brothers tied the rakhis sent by their sisters and shared the photo on Whatsapp. Thousands of such brothers living thousands of kilometers away from their sisters celebrated Rakshabandhan through social sites. Facebook and Whatsapp made the festival of brother-sister love memorable. People took lots of selfies with their sisters and shared them on Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. The process of wishing Rakshabandhan continued throughout the day. Women from social organizations went to various police stations of the city and tied Rakhi to the police personnel and celebrated Rakshabandhan with them.
