News India Live, Digital Desk: A new and interesting twist has come in the politics of Uttar Pradesh regarding Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport), which is going to be among the largest airports in Asia. While on one hand this project is seen as the dream project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other hand, now the ‘first credit’ for the concept of this grand airport has been registered in the name of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Recent discussions and historical documents have made it clear that the dream of flying planes over Jewar land was dreamed of about two decades ago.
Rajnath Singh and that historic decision of 2001
The story of Noida International Airport is not today but 25 years old. When Rajnath Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, it was he who first proposed to build an international airport in Jewar. In 2001, his government had prepared a preliminary blueprint for this ambitious project. However, in later years, due to change of power and political tussle, this file was shelved. Experts say that if work on it had started at that time, perhaps Jewar Airport would have been shining on the world map long ago.
Why is the project stuck in Mayawati and Akhilesh government?
There was a lot of tussle regarding Jewar Airport among the governments that came to power in Uttar Pradesh after Rajnath Singh. During the Mayawati government, an attempt was made to take it forward in the name of Taj International Aviation Hub (TIAH), but the matter got stuck due to lack of coordination with the then UPA government at the Center and technical problems. After this, even during the Akhilesh Yadav government, options for building airports near Agra and Mathura were discussed, due to which the Jewar project lagged further. Ultimately, with the return of BJP in 2017, Rajnath Singh’s old dream was revived.
Now Asia’s largest runway is ready to take off
The ‘double engine’ government has put in all its strength to make Jewar Airport a reality where it is today. As Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh is also continuously keeping an eye on the progress of this project. Presently the trial run and construction work of the airport is going on war footing. It is expected that very soon commercial flights will start from here, which will change the entire economic picture of not only Delhi-NCR but also Western Uttar Pradesh. It is the result of the foresight of Rajnath Singh and the willpower of Modi-Yogi that today Jewar stands in the queue of the most modern airports in the world.
