News India Live, Digital Desk: The world often wonders what India’s stand will be on major international issues. Most people predict that India will either support or adopt the middle path (Abstain). But recently something happened in the United Nations (UN), which surprised the western countries, especially America and Europe.

The issue was the situation of human rights in Iran. Western countries presented a proposal to surround Iran, but India cast its vote against it. Simply put, India said ‘no’ to this proposal.

Why are Western countries surprised?
Western countries were hoping that India would support them or at least remain silent on a sensitive issue like human rights. But this ‘Opposition’ vote of India has given a strong message. Diplomacy experts believe that western countries are seeing this as a big blow because India is strongly presenting its ‘strategic autonomy’ (independent policy) in front of the whole world.

Why did India take such a decision?
There could be many reasons behind this. Firstly, the relations between Iran and India are historically very old and strong. Be it the matter of energy (oil) or big projects like Chabahar Port, Iran’s support is very important for India.

The second major reason is that India has always been opposed to interference in the internal affairs of any country through international organizations. India believes that such proposals are often politically motivated to target a particular country.

the message is very clear
This voting has made it clear that New Delhi’s foreign policy is no longer influenced by the pressure of Washington or London. India has the strength to stand by its national interests and its allies. This decision is an answer to those who think that India can be divided into one camp.

At present, from social media to diplomatic circles, there is talk everywhere about how a ‘No’ has forced the big players of the West to think.
