News India Live, Digital Desk: The increasing tension between Iran and Israel in West Asia has shaken the entire world. In India too, its effect is being seen on social media in the form of ‘market of rumours’. In the messages going viral on Facebook and WhatsApp, it is being claimed that due to the war, restrictions like lockdown may be imposed in India again and oil prices may skyrocket. Amidst these speculations, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has come forward and clarified the situation. He not only rejected the news of lockdown outright, but also strongly presented the government’s stand regarding the prices of petrol and diesel.
Rumors busted: Will there really be a lockdown?
Hardeep Singh Puri clarified that India’s economy and security system is very strong. He has appealed to the public not to believe in fabricated news like lockdown being spread under the guise of war. According to government sources, the country has adequate resources and India is fully prepared to deal with any emergency. The Minister said that some elements are spreading such misleading information only to create panic, which has nothing to do with reality.
Big deal on petrol-diesel prices and excise duty
Due to the Iran-Israel war, there is a fear that the supply chain of crude oil in the international market will be affected. On this, Hardeep Puri said that India has diversified its sources of oil supply, due to which we are not dependent on any one region. On the question of reduction in excise duty, he said that the Central Government has already given big relief to the public. The government’s priority is that the burden of global turmoil should not fall on the pockets of the common consumer. He indicated that the government is constantly monitoring the situation so that prices can be kept stable.
India’s ‘Energy Security’ and future plans
The Union Minister stressed that India is completely confident about its ‘Energy Security’. Adequate stocks exist in Strategic Petroleum Reserves. Responding to the opposition and social media trolls, he said that India is the fifth largest economy in the world today and we are capable of facing any global crisis. The government is now also focusing on green energy and ethanol blending, so that dependence on crude oil imports can be reduced in future and prices can be kept under control.
