A tense atmosphere was seen in the British capital London on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day. Khalistan supporters protested outside the Indian High Commission, which was faced by the Indian community present there. The incident occurred when the Indian community had gathered for the flag hoisting ceremony.
Clash between Indian community and Khalistan supporters
The Indian community responded to anti-India protests by Khalistan supporters by coming together during Republic Day celebrations.
- An Indian citizen said:
“We had come to the Indian High Commission to celebrate the 76th Republic Day. Khalistan supporters were raising slogans against India and our sovereignty. We united and faced them. No one can break us.”
- Another citizen said:
“Our national flag was being insulted. We were in small numbers, but our confidence and patriotism was more than them. We will fight till our last breath.”
During the incident, both sides raised slogans against each other. The police had to intervene to control the situation.
Disruption in screening of emergency film
This is not the first time that Khalistan supporters have carried out anti-India activities. Apart from London, such demonstrations have also taken place in Canada.
- Khalistan supporters vandalized theaters and created disruption over the screening of Bollywood film “Emergency” in London.
- The Indian Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over this incident.
Foreign Ministry expressed displeasure
India has registered strong objection to the increasing anti-India activities in Britain and the disturbance by Khalistan supporters.
- External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said:
“Freedom of speech and expression cannot be selectively enforced. Those responsible should be punished to stop anti-India activities and violent demonstrations.”
India has demanded from the British government that strict action should be taken against those who obstruct the screening of the film “Emergency” and incite anti-India violence.
